This watch is the quintessential Seamaster Date model with the flat bezel and thick faceted lugs which was created for the re-edition based on the original 1948 Seamaster by Omega. This Ref.2849 was produced between 1956-1962 and the serial number of this watch dates it to 1958.

Most of the Ref.2849 were manufactured in steel or gold shell cases and solid gold examples like this are rare and highly desirable. The solid gold case has been lightly polished before we acquired it and presents in near mint condition now with light patina and a back cover that snaps very tightly. It weighs about 42.7grams and worth more than S$2500 for the gold alone.

The original silvered dial remains in very good condition with mild patina and is very good for it’s age as seen while the radium pips are intact with matching hands. This watch is almost seventy years old!

Upon opening the back, you’ll be greeted by a gleaming pink gold gilt automatic movement with swan-neck fine regulator in near mint condition which means this watch has not been abused nor subjected to moisture damage over the decades.

Overall, this is a very good vintage and unmolested example looking for a new home. If you’re after a vintage Omega Seamaster with a date to start your collecting journey then this is the one and very affordable for a solid gold watch.
