This Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph CAR2112.FC6267 is fitted with the first in-house chronograph movement by Tag Heuer.
This is a rare watch done in collaboration with Mercedes Benz to commemorate the mighty 300SLR (W196) race car in a limited edition of just 5000 pieces. This is one of the most important and celebrated race car by the German automaker, having won five of the six races they entered. Notably 1-2 in the 1955 Mille Miglia, 1-2-3 in a Tourist trophy and 1-2 at Targa Florio. Their reign was only ended pre-maturely by the 24hrs Le Mans accident.
A relief of the car is shown on the stainless steel back cover of the watch and each is individually numbered. The dial is a smoked coffee brown with three counters, two sunken and prominently marked by white while orange accents highlight the details and tips of the hands. A perforated rally style calf leather strap was issued and the deployant buckle shows a vintage style Heuer logo engraved onto the buckle. The flat top pump pushers are also a wonderful touch that adds to the vintage theme.
The Mercedes Benz factory only made two street legal 300SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe (Sport, Leicht and Rennen = Sport, Light & Racing) and one was sold for a staggering US$143 million in 2022, making it the most valuable car in history.
This watch shows some light wear and fitted with its original rally style brown leather strap. There is no service history, all functions checked and works well with a one year warranty from us.
Retails US$3600 & owner paid US$3241.92 after discount from the Tag Heuer boutique in LA, California USA (USD was much stronger in 2015). Details on GPHG website here.
