This Ref.6050 Oyster Perpetual Chronometer Bubble-back dates to early 1950s & presented in near mint condition for the case and movement. This model is fitted with the correct Super-Oyster non-screw-lock crown that was introduced by Rolex at an attempt to replace the traditional screw-lock crowns with multiple gaskets but it was a short-lived success and 3yrs later, they went back to screw-lock crowns. Hence these crowns can only be found on 1951-53 Rolex Oysters. For a bubble-back, this was one of the last production model as it’s history goes back to mid-1930s when it was introduced as the first automatic and waterproof watch by Rolex. By now, the case has enlarged to 32mm vs 30mm when it was first introduced.
The steel case has been lightly polished to factory specs and lugs remain thick. It is notable that there’s no corrosion observed and case integrity is better than some watches that are 10yrs old. The dial is an old restoration job on an original plate with raised gold crown, numbers & daggers. There’s some smudge on the black print by someone who carelessly touched the dial years ago but only visible if u pay attention and the dial shows ageing so it’s not exactly an eye-sore. Movement is clean and rotor shines like new which is a great sign. Overall, this is a very good example and perhaps you may want to hunt for a good dial to replace it and the value will undoubtedly increase. We have too many watches to do another project so this is yours for a lower price. The movement is in very good condition and will continue to serve many decades to come as long as you take care of it. Case has the correct matching numbers for the back cover as some vintages are available with the wrong back cover and this affects the value greatly.
This Rolex bubble back is slightly more than seventy years old now and it brings us great pleasure to offer good vintage watches like this.
