Description
Vintage. No box but has factory issued archive certificate.
It is our pleasure to present you this quintessential Vacheron & Constantin. The original Cornes de Vache, french for Cow horns lugs, a defining design that is associated with one of the oldest watch maker and so successful that it started an entire collection dedicated to this model.
What we have here is the first generation model Ref.4361 in jumbo size. The original vintage from 1940s and pre-dates the 1955 Ref.6087 chronograph by almost a decade.
The dial is an original, showing some mild blemishes evenly spread out on the surface and the champlevé enamel ensures the print will remain legible forever as this process involves engraving onto the plate and enamelled then fired in a kiln with appliqué gold indices to finish it off. The solid gold watch is heavy and weighs 48.8grams. It takes about 23 winds on the crown to full power reserve and this watch has the original hat crown.
The case is in splendid condition and developed a lovely patina that can be easily polished away but collectors savour this look now. At 36mm, this was a very large watch at its time when most watches were 30mm for men. The movement, developed from a Jaeger LeCoultre ebauche Calibre 450 is finished to a very high standard, sparkles like new and keeps time.
This watch has benefitted with a factory issued archive certificate that takes several months to deliver with cost and adds substantial value to it. According to the factory record, this watch was manufactured in 1947, just two years after WW2.
The year 1947 was the beginning of Cold War. America started the Marshall plan to help rebuild war-torn Europe while Pakistan and India won independence from Great Britain. IMF began its financial operations.
This is a very rare watch and quite impossible to replace in this condition. One can find more vintage Jumbo Calatravas out there but not this.
Further 3% discount for non-credit card payments.
