The Rolex Thunderbird has an endearing history going as far back as 1953 and is one of the earliest sports model. Launched as Ref.6202 with a 36mm steel case and a rotating bezel with 60mins markings, it was named as Turn-O-Graph and this would go on to influence the Submariner. That same year, the USAF Aerobatics team turned to Rolex for a watch to equip their pilots while performing their stunts and a later model of the Turn-O-graph was sold to them and hence the nickname, Thunderbird. It went through several changes and the rotating bezel became solid gold. It was the most expensive model in the Datejust family and has finally bowed out of the catalogue. This 16264 is a late production model from the last 2nd series and presented in a very clean, all silver look with the Oyster bracelet.
Case has light user marks and is very presentable as it is. The bracelet is 85% tight and glass is good. The 18KWG bezel with the intricate pattern is in good condition. This white gold bezel turns in both directions and can be used as a parking meter or to time events within 60mins of your life.
A collector’s item that won’t break your piggy bank.
