This Pam0098 is the first stainless steel Alarm watch with GMT by Panerai and has been discontinued many years ago. It began life in 1999 as PAM0046 in 18ct white gold with just sixty pieces made under B series and some more in subsequent years but there are only a small numbers out there.
Our specimen here is serial number 001 of 500pcs made from the first batch of stainless steel cased E series produced in 2002. This model is over two decades old now but looks as though it has just surfaced. Serial number One is always coveted by collectors as it represents the pinnacle, numero Uno, 一号.
Watch appears to be unpolished and presented in near mint condition but do expect fine hairlines on the polished steel case. There is no service history, watch has never been opened and movement winds well with no heavy resistance while timing is good and all functions checked. All full service at no charge is available upon request.
The dark brown alligator strap is in very good condition and will save you about S$600 to replace.
This is a brilliant watch for daily use & the frequent traveller who doesn’t want a cumbersome 44mm. The dual time zone, date & alarm movement is supplied by Girard Perregaux & a similar model with the same functions can be found in their Traveller collection.
Only 500pcs were made from this series. Today, only a few pieces are available online but none will bear this special number so if you are one who cherishes unique watches and number 001 then this is the one to have.
