Description
Antique. No box or papers. Comes with factory archive certificate.
A very fine open face pocket watch by Vacheron & Constantin Genève. Simple elegance, something that you can use daily and won’t cost you the Moon. This watch has been inspected by a VC boutique and an archive certificate issued by the factory traces the manufacture of this watch back to 1905. This watch was exported to North American market and due to US Tariff, it was supplied without a case and cased by local jewelers with this AWCCo case in 18ct gold. A common practice back in those days.
The white enamel dial is in perfect condition with black Arabic numerals & railway track minute divisions with a small seconds. This is topped by a pair of matching Moon style hands in gold. The solid gold case is in very good condition throughout with original bow and crown except for two tiny dings to the edge of the case band @ 5 & 8 O’clock but largely negligible.
The beautiful nickelled movement is jewelled to the center and it is fitted with a May 24 1904 Patent design for the micrometric screw regulator for fine adjustment. It has a bi-metallic balance with gold weights and blued steel Breguet overcoil hairspring. The bridges are bevelled and polished while the winding gears feature slanted wolf’s teeth. These are features found on the finest watches and are prized features till present day.
This is a stem set watch so the crown functions as our modern watches and it takes about 16 winds to full power reserve & pulling out sets the time.
Watch weighs 76grams.
This watch begun it’s service in 1905. This was the second year of Russo-Japanese war which led to the Russian revolution. UK was ruled by King Edward VII while Theodore Roosevelt was the president of United States. China was under Qing dynasty and ruled by Emperor GuangXu and in May 1905, a large scale boycott of US products started. On 20 August 1905, TongMengHui was founded in Japan by Sun Yat Sen and others that began the unification of Chinese revolutionary groups. By 1906, a branch was founded in Singapore which served as the HQ in Nanyang.
Vacheron & Constantin is the oldest watch manufacturer in continuing production for the last four centuries centuries starting in 1755.
