Vintage. No box/papers & a Passions box will be given.
This large 18ct gold pocket chronograph measuring 55mm across, dating to the early twentieth century and is signed as Patek, Philippe & Cie Genève on the white enamel dial and case. This signature is an early form that would be discontinued in later years and disappear from the dials of Patek Philippe watches, a detail that collectors may find delight with.
This watch was retailed by C. Fredenhagen the agent général in Buenos Aires (Argentina) for Patek Philippe and engraved on the gold dust cover (cuvette) along with the serial numbers and manufacturer’s name. Check out the quality of the highly complex movement finished in frosted gold gilt with contrasting steel levers and gears.
This is a complete Swiss factory manufacture watch with matching numbers on the case bearing numbers of the movement. To adjust time, you’d need to depress the pin at 11 o’clock with your nail and adjust the crown while a slide @ 2 o’clock locks and unlocks the mono-pusher button in the crown for activating the stopwatch function. The white enamelled dial with black Roman hour numerals and minute plus seconds divisions is in flawless condition while the blued steel hands changes colour to a plum purple colour under changing lights. The crystal has some scratches and we are sourcing for a new spare to serve as a replacement that will be complimentary.
Complications by Patek Philippe are prized watches by collectors and this is one not to be missed with a very large 55mm case and the watch weighs a hefty 135.6grams. At S$83/gram for 18kt now, this watch is worth S$11250.
The year 1907 saw the rise of industrial capitalism with the creation of salaried jobs and a financial crisis later that year led to the establishment of the Federal Reserve System in USA. This watch was created for someone needing to time important events as the large sweep center seconds with a ring tail would time the next sixty seconds.
The essence in collecting pocket watches is appreciating the finer details from the hand made craftsmanship era that has disappeared from modern watch making. This watch carries more than a century of history with it and will faithfully serve you and your descendants to come.
