Description
Vintage. No box/papers.
This is a very beautiful vintage Omega Chronometre in stainless steel case dating back to 1945 with semblance of a Patek Philippe Calatrava. The silvered dial is a professional restoration work that will easily cost US$1000 to fabricate on an original base plate. Such dials are well accepted by collectors who cannot accept vintage patina and some dealers list such pieces as new old stock. The owner paid Euro3200 for this watch in 2021 from an European dealer.
Dials with Roman numeral are rare and prized by collectors. The layout on this dial is well executed and aesthetically very appealing for the eighty years old watch.
This luxury model was introduced in 1943 and fitted with a chronometer grade movement from the Calibre 30T2rg with upgraded specifications, where RG means rose gold (gilt) and it takes about twenty winds to full power reserve. The movement shines like new as seen. The legacy of this movement traces to the famous WW2 mil-spec Dirty dozen that was supplied to the British Army and it was the primary movement for all large sized manual winding Omega watches right into the 1960s.
The case remains untouched with sharp edges, factory profile and finishing. The back cover is very tight and requires a pressure machine to close it. It will be difficult to find another of similar specs again.
