Vintage. No box or papers.
A very attractive vintage IWC dating to 1950. This is a very unusual model made in a large monocoque case with a snap-fit bezel and top lifting movement, likely made in pursuit of a higher water resistant design. Such cases are always heavier due to a single cast bowl bottom and in this case, 18ct precious gold metal which offers a substantial weight. As a result, the movement is kept in near mint condition as seen. At 35mm, this is a very large watch during it’s time and calls for a 12 ligne calibre 88 movement finished to a very high standard. Popular gents size watches of that era like Rolex had 10 1/2 ligne movements.
The original dial shows even spread of blemishes and remains in very good condition while the solid gold markers and hands sparkle. This watch bears uncanny resemblance to the Calatrava by Patek Philippe and shares similar qualities but at a fraction of the price. This watch will certainly bring joy to the new owner. This IWC was acquired from our Italian dealer in 2010 when we visited him in Rimini, next to the Adriatic sea and has remained in our vault for the past fifteen years. Functions have been checked and jewels oiled.
We rarely come across a vintage IWC of this quality and beauty.
