This a very rare model Ref.6332 Semi-bubbleback which dates to 1954 and appears to be a single year production reference. It is a gap model between the last of the bubble-backs and the Oyster perpetual with the then new Cal.1030 movement. It features a new style 3pc Oyster case which remains in use till now but the lugs are concave, curved in rather than the usual profile that we see. It retains the original period correct + signed screw-lock crown that came after the non screw-lock Super Oyster crown that was used between 1951-53 and was an unsuccessful venture by Rolex. This 6332 hails from the same era as the earliest 6204 Submariner and 6350 Explorer.
It is also notable that the name Deepsea was first featured on this model but is of course now found on the Sea-Dweller Deepsea that was introduced in 2008, featuring a 44mm case with a titanium back and a rating of 3990m.
This watch came with an early Jubilee bracelet with folded 5pc links but is short and will only fit a 16cm wrist. We don’t have any extra links on this and cannot extend it further so you may replace it with a leather strap for the 19mm lugs. The case has been polished to factory specs and the crystal replaced.
This watch is fitted with a desirable dial in the classic Explorer layout and has taken a beautiful ageing over time. The original hands have their radium replaced by tritium some years ago for better visibility in the dark. Upon opening the back cover, you’ll be greeted by a beautiful Cal.645 perpetual movement that still shines. Bear in mind that these are not shock-proof so never drop the watch or you’ll risk breaking the balance staff and that’s a pain to fix. The watch is of course not water resistant and can be a daily watch as long as you’re a careful user.
