This charming vintage Omega Seamaster Calendar is a one family’s watch. The watch has just received a restoration where the watch was completely stripped & movement overhauled. The case was carefully polished then washed and watch re-assembled. The gold indices on the dial and hands were polished by hand individually to bring out their lustre again. It is then fitted with a new crystal, crown, gasket and leather strap so is ready for you. The original lead gasket ring is sealed to the rim of the gold case so we cleaned it and although it looks dirty, this is how used old lead looks like. The soft alloy nature makes it suitable as a water-resistant gasket when rubber O-rings weren’t available more than half a century ago and some are still functioning today.
This model was introduced in 1952 and the movement was manufactured in 1951 which matches as watches are always cased later to be sold and factory information is available here.
The original silvered dial shows some patina and is in very good condition for it’s age with solid gold indices. This Calendar model was the first Seamaster with a date feature @ six and would move to the 3 o’clock position with an updated movement later on. Upon unlocking the screw back cover, you’ll be greeted with a gleaming pink gold movement and this was the 1st automatic calibre by Omega with the bumper rotor system.
Overall, this is a very good vintage with clean provenance and largely unmolested example looking for a good home. The restoration job alone adds almost S$1000 value to this watch and most sellers will not go this extra mile.
