A lovely vintage LeCoultre (Jaeger LeCoultre) from 1950s in a fairly large 34mm case with very desirable Cornes de Vache (Cow Horn) lugs and a screw-lock back that was very costly to produce vs snap backs. The original dial has aged to a very charming patina with ripple guilloche and yellow gold Arabic numerals on the quarters with daggers and a small seconds.

The yellow gold filled case is in very good condition showing little wear on the edges, the movement take about 15 winds to full reserve and keeps time. The finely finished movement shines which shows that is has been well cherished and kept dry for the past seven decades.

The case was made by L&K (Lutringer & Kammerer), a high quality watch case maker based in New York and frequently produced cases for the American arm of Swiss watchmaker Longines-Wittnauer during the mid-20th century.

Following the U.S. Tariff Act of 1930, most Swiss watches were imported into the United States as uncased movements to avoid heavy duties, with the cases manufactured and assembled locally. From 1932 to 1985, the LeCoultre brand was marketed in North America, and its movements carried the U.S. import code VXN, designating the Swiss manufacturer. At the time, Vacheron & Constantin acted as the official agent for Jaeger-LeCoultre in the region under the joint venture known as Vacheron-LeCoultre. This venture operated as a subsidiary of the Longines-Wittnauer Watch Company, and together the four brands—Longines, Wittnauer, Vacheron-LeCoultre, and LeCoultre—were promoted under the banner of “The Longines-Wittnauer Family of Fine Watches.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre brand name was only adopted for global sales from 1985 onwards.
