Passions is pleased to offer another rare and whimsical novelty by Cartier, created by the house of Piaget some six decades ago with a watch hidden in a US twenty dollar solid gold coin. Upon depressing a concealed rectangular button on the rim of the coin, the cover pops open to reveal a watch that you can lift up to wind and set time as seen from our images here.
This watch was returned to the Cartier factory and received a complete overhaul costing S$1710 with receipt and sold with two years international warranty by Cartier till November 2025.
The internal watch measures 28mm in diameter with a 2,8mm thinness and is fitted with an ultra-thin Piaget movement. The entire gold watch weighs 33.5grams.
Gold coin watches were offered by several notable watch makers in the past and Cartier is one of the rarer and sought after brand. The workmanship is superb and required two gold coins to produce one watch while the button is cleverly hidden and almost invisible if one is not vigilant, making owning such watches a pleasure. This will certainly heighten the appeal in any watch collection and not to be missed by Cartier fans. The value is further affirmed by the restoration done by the Cartier factory.
This is possibly the only such watch available now and sold with international warranty.
