Description
Vintage. No box or paper but sold with archive certificate issued by factory and a box from Passions.
According to the factory records, this watch was manufactured in 1962 and sold on 7 Nov 1963.
This gorgeous Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref.570 is known as the jumbo for it’s large dimensions and the center seconds model is much sought after. Watch was serviced + polished to factory specs and presents in excellent condition throughout. The original dial shows light patina and some spots (barely visible to naked eyes) creeping under the gold markers but they’re mild and shows it’s originality. The black signature is hard enamel with machined minute dots on perimeter. This is essentially the grandfather of the present day Ref.5196 but with a center seconds.
The 27SC movement was introduced in 1949 and has undergone the full works where it was finished to the standards and stamped with double Geneva Hallmark seals. It is further polished with Côtes de Genève, adjusted to 5 positions, temperatures and Isochronism. A fine swan-neck regulator completes it. We noticed that some Patek movements were not as well finished and those were often found exported to US market.
It takes 18 winds on the crown to full power reserve and here’s a good read on the evolution of Patek’s basic hand wound movement where this Calibre 27SC is covered.
A very desirable vintage Patek Calatrava for the discerning collector. The second image shows this compared to two other Calatravas that we have now.
