Description
Vintage. No boxes or papers but watch has been serviced.
This classic gent’s Rolex Oyster Perpetual was manufactured around 1969 with a date code ‘I 69’ stamped on the inside of the back cover denoting 1st quarter on 1969 and the serial numbers match it. It has the early fine fluted-cut Millerighe (a thousand lines in Italian) bezel in 14ct yellow gold. Watch is presented in good condition with a near mint dial. The details on the hour batons are a pleasure to admire and it has that blued steel sweep center seconds that was discontinued by the seventies. This watch is fitted with a period matching riveted Oyster (1953-69) bracelet by Gay Frères with scallop crown on the buckle and has gold center pieces to match the half gold watch. The bracelet is stamped with manufacture date 4 62 and is quite long with just one link missing.
It is a pleasure to find one of these vintages with a matching bracelet. The case shows light wear and the automatic movement is in fair condition for it’s age.
Watch is sold with a some paperwork documenting the complete servicing of this watch by a Japanese firm in Tokyo for Yen48,300 in July 2005 & there is also an A4 image showing the completely dismantled movement of this watch.
The Ref.1005 was the entry model for clients looking for an automatic Rolex without the fancy features. It enjoyed a very successful three decades run in a variety of case materials with production starting in 1959 and ended in the late 1980s. Today, this model is nicknamed OP for Oyster Perpetual and can be found from the catalogue under Ref.124200 but only available in stainless steel.
