Description
Vintage. No box or paper.
This is the original Heuer Camaro. Launched in 1968 by Jack Heuer and named after the American muscle car to enter the north American market. The Camaro featured several layouts and movements but all were manual winding and this is the later edition with a Valjoux 7736 movement with triple registers and production ceased after 1972 so it had only a four years run which is pretty short.
The steel case has likely been polished once and retains some factory finishing with angular edges. The movement and inner case back are signed Heuer-Leonidas. A new strap has been replaced and a modern vintage style Heuer buckle is fitted. The dial and hands are original along with the aged tritium and in very good condition except for a small scratch line on the matt brown dial between the two counters at 4-5 o’clock batons but this is only noticeable under certain angle and not quite visible in our images. The movement received an overhaul in July 2025 so is clean as seen and functions well.
On 1st January 1964 Heuer merged with their old rival, Leonidas and and the company became the largest manufacturer of stopwatches and timing instruments from Switzerland. Heuer took this opportunity to enter US market and growth was tremendous until the quartz crisis hit in 1971. By 1985, was acquired by TAG to become Tag Heuer and the Leonidas name was dropped entirely. In 1999 the brand was sold to LVMH.
Here’s a guide on the Camaro.
