To celebrate her 150th anniversary in 1997, Cartier released a huge collection to celebrate it under Les Collections Privées de Cartier. A special anniversary paper-back catalogue containing over 100 pages of hand painted images of the products was issued. They were all produced in limited numbers with the prized items being piece unique while most were made in symbolic numbers of 3, 150 & 1847, the year Cartier was founded. There were jewellery, bags, clocks, lighters, pens and of course watches.
This lovely lady’s Diabolo was one of those. Two sizes were introduced and this is the larger of the two launched, measuring a decent 27.5mm wide with overhung lugs adorned with blue sapphire or spinel cabochons. The dial is printed with the 150th anniversary motif and L love C. Introduced in 1990s, the Diablolo is a very striking design unlike any watches out there and the cabochons were sometimes diamonds or other precious stones while the gents versions had hand-wind movements. It has since been discontinued.
Watch is lightly polished to preserve it’s profile while the domed mineral glass has a tiny little chip near 8 o’clock but hardly visible to naked eyes. (Difficult to even see from the pics here) A pair of original and lightly used croco leather strap is fitted with the original 18K buckle. A new original circuit has been replaced with fresh battery in late June 2022 so this watch will serve you many more years to come.
A lovely watch to own from a part of Cartier’s rich heritage. Very stylish and will compliment any wardrobe. For a solid gold watch under S$10K, this is quite a bargain and only 150pcs made.
