Description
Pre-owned. No box or paper.
History: Introduced in 1995, this Ref.79260 replaced the big-block with a slightly bulging mid-case and the introduction of sapphire glass in line with the modernisation of Rolex Oyster cases. By late 1990s, the Oyster name was abandoned with the bracelet & crown replaced with the Tudor shield logo while this desirable Oyster bracelet version was replaced by a 5-links design in the last series.
This is an iconic Chronograph from Tudor that bears remarkable resemblance to the vintage Rolex Daytonas of the 1970-80s. This model has been discontinued for more than a decade and is now a sought after collector’s item.
Condition: This Tudor Oysterdate Chronograph has probably been polished once and seen light wear with general hairlines throughout but no major flaws. The movement is a Valjoux 7750, a very reliable and workhorse while the screw-lock pushers and Rolex Trip-lock (Submariner) crown were technologies developed by Rolex. The lugs remain thick and case profile is excellent while the bracelet is tight. We’ll let the pictures speak for itself. What’s charming is the panda dial that has turned brownish, giving a very lovely vintage vibe to it and some call this tropicalised. This can only be achieved with the passing of time and the ageing is unique so no two piece are ever the same. We have a collection of six of these and none has aged as beautiful as this specimen.
Do not associate this with the last series which has a completely different case, crown and bracelet that has a far lower value. Our watch here is a transition model from the by-gone era with Rolex signed parts and hence the collectibility.
A fantastic watch for daily activities and an appreciating timepiece.
