Description
Pre-owned & near mint. Comes with orig. boxes & undated paper.
This Breguet is a very rare model & the first time we are offering it. It has an alarm function with date and housed in a large 39mm solid gold casing which makes it quite a hefty watch to hold.
The finishing is impeccable as always. The alarm indicator operates via pulling out the top button then adjust the large central disc which acts as the hours & a circumventing outer ring that acts as the minutes. This is one of the only known alarm system that allows us to set the exact minutes for the alarm function. The brand and serial number are signed discreetly on the upper quarter corners of the dial, an execution of discreet finesse because the case and dial are unmistakably Breguet.
The solid gold case is in near mint condition as seen and can be easily polished to remove any hints of scratches but we leave this to the buyer and the original leather strap is in very good condition. There is no service record, watch works very well and is sold with our One-year in-house warranty.
The movement is a Lemania SL980, introduced in 1969 as an answer to Jaeger LeCoultre’s Cal.815 Memovox. Our Lemania movement here has a more advanced system with state of the art features like a Glucydur balance, self-compensating hairspring, and a free-spinning central rotor. This single rotor winds a single barrel which manages both timekeeping and alarm functions.
Unlike the Jaeger-LeCoultre movements, this Cal.980 could be set with to-the-minute accuracy. Because both the hour and minute of the alarm could be set independently like a second time zone of its own. JLC has only a single disc with an indicator for alarm, our Breguet here has two discs that you can set the hour and minutes accurately. The alarm is not loud as the hammer strikes a gong attached to the movement plate than the case but the vibration is enough to remind the wearer of this fine watch of an impending appointment. Time is set via the crown at 4 while the pusher @ 2 is for alarm by pulling-out to set and pressing-in to stop.
This movement was also used by Omega for their Memomatic that was sold between 1971-73 followed by Breguet.
This is a discontinued model & rarely ever seen in the open market so production numbers would have been very little and it has a very large (by Breguet standards) 39mm case.
Further 3% discount for non-credit card payments.
