Movado is one of the more respected elder Swiss brands dating back to 1881. Before the onslaught of quartz crisis, they made many important watches and manufactured own movements, one of which is being listed here today. Their vintages are well sought after by collectors globally and not many pieces surface.
This is a post 1950s model when Movado hah coined it’s logo with a Letter M sitting on top of an inverted arrow & you’ll be delighted to know that the original signed crown is fitted on this watch too. The case had been hand polished and is in excellent condition without any visible dents or scratches. The rose gold shell over steel shows no wear which is important and dial is original with ageing. Upon unlocking the screw back, the inner case shows to be in mint condition without a hint of rust or mark while the movement shines in a light shade of rose gold. The movement Calibre 531 used here was made between 1960-67. This automatic movement has up to 28 jewels which is more than usual and surpasses modern movements when most make do with just 21 jewels.
It is a nice starter vintage watch in half pink gold and Movado commands certain pedigree and above Omega when it comes to vintages. A collector for this watch is not just after the brand but the fine condition and quality movement. It will no doubt bring much joy to come as what the brand means “Always in motion”.
Today, Movado exist as a US owned group consisting of 11 brands and is listed on NYSE.
