Description
New Old Stock. Comes complete with orig. aluminium box+outer box, tools & paper to be dated upon purchase with factory warranty.
Launched in 2010. The U-42 collection was inspired by an original design that was conceived by the grand father of the designer who did this for the Italian navy from the mid-20th Century.
The first edition, the U1942 measures a massive 65mm and sold for a ground breaking S$59900 (US$40,000) so this is a lot more affordable & is “small” enough to be worn. The bezel measures 54mm & body in 53mm. They were all Destro, Left-hander watches with a unique crown locking feature when depressed, releases the crown tube which is then lifted out from the U channel housing so you can wind or set time. Another lever is built into the lower part of the case @ 4 o’clock which pressure locks the rotating bezel. Upon lifting the lever, the bezel rotates at ease in bi-direction which allows the user to set the desired position against the minute hand then lock again for reading lapsed time for up to 60mins.
Two versions were produced for this U-42. An automatic model with 999pcs made that features a sweep center seconds in full titanium without gold and a much more exclusive 99pcs manual winding version which is our specimen here that has a small seconds and 18K matt yellow gold knob on the crown locking lever including the center pin of the buckle.
This model is decorated with the signatures of the U-boat watchmakers on the back cover & all limited edition nos are signed on the dial, case band & back cover, making it very exclusive which shows a lot of pride in their craftsmanship. The impressive box is machined out from a block of solid aluminium and is very heavy as you can imagine. It has a maritime inspired pot-hole glass attached on top and riveted down to reveal the watch when it rests within it & each box is numbered to the corresponding watch which tells you how much effort they put into this in a world of mass production.
Our watch has a very desirable serial no 8 out of 99pcs which shows up as 08/99 on the dial & repeated throughout the case. Authorised dealers were selling these at full retail with less than 15% discount for the random numbers but we had early access to the desirable numbers & acquired a few pieces so they are released for sale now knowing collectors demand the best.
