Description
Vintage. No box or papers & a Passions box will be given.
A vintage Jaeger LeCoultre automatic Memovox alarm watch for the collector and something that you can wear as a daily. This was sold in the North American market hence signed as LeCoultre on the dial.
These watches by LeCoultre were always cased by the US factory and properly stamped throughout. This example presents in excellent condition with little signs of wear but the fine engine-turned bezel in soft gold has received wear over decades of handling which is common. We have fitted a new luxurious dark chocolate alligator leather strap on it worth S$380.
The automatic movement, Calibre 916 was introduced in 1969 and is the first Memovox movement to feature a full 360° rotating rotor and high-beat balance of 28800 for better accuracy. Hence, it was labelled HPG on the dial aka High Precision Guaranteed. The matt black dial has a decorative features in gold which is rather unique and deserves your attention.
Usage:
It takes about 16 winds for the top crown to power up the alarm function and the crown is marked by a gold tip for the alarm feature which has it’s own mainspring drum. Pull this crown out to turn the alarm disc which is marked by a triangle to your desired time then press the crown back. The bright alarm will ring with strong vibrations when it is time and you’ll pull the down out to silent it. The lower crown winds up the main spring for the movement to work and pulling it out sets the time, there’s no quick-set date but you may do so by doing 9pm and 12 am repeatedly to quick-set the date. A simple and effective mechanical wristwatch that still serves its purpose in the 21st century and a delight for any watch collector.
