Description
Vintage. No box/papers.
This is a very beautiful vintage Omega dating back to 1945 and is a single owner’s watch from new. The original silvered dial has little ageing to the edges but it is still in superior condition. This watch belonged to the owner’s late grandfather who served in WW2 and returned to New Zealand. This watch was subsequently left in a drawer for decades and forgotten until recently. When presented to us, the watch had no strap, stopped functioning, the crystal has turned brown and the dial was impossible to read but we could see a potential.
It is eighty years old.
We took on the challenge and conducted a sympathetic restoration. In Feb 2025, this watch was completely stripped apart. The case washed and rust spots treated, the movement shines as new but was taken apart, cleaned, lubricated, repaired and timed then finally a new German made extra-flat crystal is fitted to enhance the classic flat case of this. A S$600 job was invested to this watch. The case remains untouched with factory profile and finishing. The back cover is very tight and requires a pressure machine to close it. The movement here was the same calibre fitted to the famous mil-spec Dirty dozen that was supplied to the British Army.
We’re looking for someone who would appreciate this and carry on the custodianship. This is a great starter for anyone wanting to venture into vintage horology while seeking provenance and authentic condition. You’ll be the first owner to wear it after decades in hibernation.
