Description
Vintage. No box/papers.
This is an elegant & simple automatic IWC watch in steel with a snap-on back. The dial has a nice appliqué metal IWC in bold letters which is really prominent and the full signature underneath in black. Together with the hands, they are all original with a slightly aged patina. The case has light wear with fine hairlines but nothing major and minimal rust marks as can be seen. The crown is an original and signed with the IWC fish logo as well. Overall, this is a very presentable vintage IWC in good condition with a quality that surpasses many branded watches of those years. A decent vintage that can be worn daily as long as you keep it away from moisture & shocks.
This watch shares aesthetics with the Patek Philippe Calatrava and is very appealing and for the fraction of the price.
Introduced in 1958, this Calibre 853 featured the Pellation winding system, was smaller & slimmer than it’s predecessors. It was one of the best automatic movement to come out of Switzerland in it’s days & this would go on to influence the modern day Cal.5000 with 7-days power reserve first used in the Portuguese family of watches.
