The mid-century Space race between USA and Soviet Union influenced an era of space age designs from furniture, motorcars to architecture and watches. And then we have the epic science fiction film from 1968 by Arthur C. Clarke and Stanley Kubrick that gave us the 2001:A Space Odyssey.
This 1970s Omega De Ville is a product of that era and bears the signature of retro-futurist design that can be found in the likes of Ikepod and Apple watch. This is all mechanical with an elongated stainless steel case cast in monobloc and brush finished with a polished bezel ring for contrast. The colour changing blue-grey dial continues to set a trend in recent years and influenced many hi-end luxury brands.
Watch is in near mint condition throughout except for a tiny line of wear on the blue pigment of the dial near the 9 o’clock baton. The acrylic crystal is a factory fitted original with the secret Omega logo.
A high quality hand-made alligator strap in navy blue with black lining was selected and tailored to the fit the 24mm lug size and 14mm buckle which is an original to the watch. This set of accessory alone will cost more than S$600 to replace and compliments the watch very well. It is in fact, better than the original as the factory fitted strap from that era was in low quality leather.
If you want a qwerky vintage watch that won’t cost a kidney then this comes highly recommended.
