Description
Pre-owned. One owner’s watch that was sparingly used & now polished to perfection but no box nor papers.
Founded in 1882, this is a Latin brand hailing from Habana. Yes, Cuba and they do have a manufacturing facility in Switzerland, La Chaux de Fonds with its HQ based in Capolago overlooking Lake Lugano. This company has remained independent
Do you know that before the Cold War, Cuba was the jewel of the Americas? Founded in early 16th Century; from the early 1900s, the island developed rapidly which attracted the rich & famous, celebrities, politicians and mafias gathered as the island was littered with luxury hotels, casinos, nightclubs, musicals and even hosted F1 Grand prix racings. A getaway holiday island with rich history, splendid architecture & of course romance so it was natural that the vibrant city offered jewellery and luxury watches. One such company is Cuervo y Sobrinos (Quervo Sobrino) established in 1882 with a deep Latin history and Swiss connection. You may have seen some vintage Pateks & Rolexes bearing the company’s name as they were the retailer in those golden years.
Extracted from the company’s website for this model, Espléndidos is inspired by the original model created during the heyday of Havana, the Art Déco design of the Espléndidos is a testimony of the wealth and splendor which ruled in the Cuban capital at the end of the 19th century.
The case design of this watch is strikingly similar to Patek’s famous Pagoda from the 1930s & a re-edition of limited run in the 1990s but this watch here has far larger & appealing proportions with useful functions such as dual-time when you travel & big-date for ease of reading.
This watch has a very pleasing case design. It wears very well and rather heavy with the bracelet but it is short and we don’t have spare links. A leather strap can be easily replaced which will make it easier to wear. The large date and dual time zone features are very welcomed.
