This is probably the only of it’s kind left in this condition. The watch was delivered sealed, never sized and kept away in a vault. It was never used and occasionally wound up to ensure that the movement works. The black faux leather material on the box has deteriorated over time and comes complete. It is the most desirable condition for the collector-investor.
Launched in 2010, this particular Speedmaster was made to commemorate the 40th anniversary (1971 to 2011) of the Apollo 15 space flight and only 1971 numbered pieces were produced which is a very low number coming from Omega. It has a rather distinct and colourful dial with red, white and blue accents. A special box came with it including a patch.
The Omega Speedmaster Professional (Moonwatch) was the first and only watch approved by NASA to be used for excursions to the Moon. Apollo 15, which began on 26th July 1971, was the fourth of NASA’s six missions to land on the Moon. It was the first mission where the Lunar Rover, battery-powered four-wheeled vehicle was used. To commemorate this special event in space navigation, Omega created the Speedmaster Moonwatch “Apollo 15 40th Anniversary Limited Edition”. This classical timepiece is limited to 1,971 pieces worldwide, the watch is embossed with an image of the Lunar Rover and the wording “Apollo 15” and “40th Anniversary” at the caseback. It beats to the movement of the classic Omega calibre 1861, the same movement that equips the legendary Speedmaster Professional.
