Description
Vintage. No box or paper.
A delightful Calatrava style wristwatch made for Tiffany & Co by IWC in the similar proportions to Patek’s famous Ref.96 and this watch has an interesting provenance from New York, USA.
It’s an absolutely beautiful watch in a 14ct yellow gold with fancy lugs featuring a silvered dial with appliqué gold Arabic numerals and small seconds. The movement is a finely finished Cal.83 that is manually wound and decorated. The 14ct yellow gold case would’ve been made in America due to import tariffs that affected nearly all imported watches. The silvered dial has been refinished to a very high standard and presents very well. The movement manufacture dates to 1943 while the watch was given in 1946, just few months after WW2.
This watch was given to Irving J. Yeckes on 17 March 1946 and engraved on the back cover. (just a few months after the end of WW2)
“IN GRATEFUL APPRECIATION OF A SPLENDID JOB WELL DONE TEMPLE ANSCHE CHESED”
Temple Ansche Chesed is a Jewish synagogue in New York so a Tiffany watch was a most appropriate gift as they’re both located on Manhattan island in New York and merely minutes away.
Great value at under S$4K for a solid gold watch by IWC made for Tiffany & Co.
